This ministry prepares the Church and the altar for the liturgical celebration of the Mass. The sacristan is a valued yet hidden member of the Mass who prepares and assists the priest during the Mass. The sacristan is available before Mass to set up and to prepare the altar and ensure that all individuals are present to engage during the liturgy of the Mass. They are also present during Mass to assist and after Mass to ensure that all materials are cleaned and organized with due reverence for the next celebration of the Holy Sacrifice.
This individual has a deep love for the Eucharist and understands the meaning and purpose of the liturgy, which is the renewal and perpetuation of Jesus's sacrifice on the cross in which Jesus offers Himself to the Father on behalf of sinners and for the salvation of the whole world as we unite ourselves to Him and are reunited to one another as members of the mystical Body of Christ.
